Chicken at Any Price . . .

Since my daughter discovered the delivery service of fast food directly to one’s home at a reasonable cost, she now knows the in and outs of the process and what food places offer it. From the comfort of her room, she can now have a craving fulfilled with a simple ap on her phone.

She is not selfish with this find and will often ask if I want anything and even pay for it. We both like to try new things or revisit places that we hated years ago to see if they have improved along with the ‘home delivery’ option now.

Yesterday, she said that she wanted to try some Popeyes’s Chicken. We tried it about ten years ago and it was terrible but figured it could probably have been the fault of the particular one we stopped at. With the current chicken sandwich wars going on, she suggested we get some chicken tenders and fries from Popeye’s Louisana-style Chicken and find out how their current offering might have improved over time . . . and, besides, we were hungry!

She went back to her computer to check out the menu and called out questions to me as to what sauces and sides I wanted. About ten minutes later, she came out literally convulsed in laughter. When she could catch her breath, she said there seemed to be a glitch in the order so she had to cancel. When she got to the payment portion of the transaction, the food companies always show you a map with the place that will be delivering your order. She noted that the significant dot was displayed for our home but then saw that the originated site was shown to be in Louisana! The receipt also noted that delivery (This was at noon Califorina time) would be at 2:15 am . . . As mentioned, she quickly cancelled the order but remarked that it still listed two dollars as the delivery charge.

Still hungry, my daughter said, “I’m ordering tacos from Tio’s and I considered that the safest thing to do at this point!

The Message of Measles . . .

Whether you regularly see to the protection of your child or are one of the anti-vaxers, this is an interesting, surprising, and well-written history of the subject. It doesn’t preach but gives the facts which everyone should know before making a final decision. The science and just plain foot work in tracing where each outbreak begins is fascinating. Kind of scary to know that if your child happens to be the beginning of an outbreak, it can be tracked back to him or her along with the information about the outcome for those infected.

Australian Justice . . .

If you haven’t heard by now, Cardinal Pell was retried on allegations of sexual misconduct for a second time and the verdict came down this week. It seems that he was absolved of the charges in the first court trial but that wasn’t the result the courts seemed to desire. Even with the facts that there were numerous testmonies to the fact that the allegation couldn’t be verified, the court system of Australia gave it another go and convicted Cardinal Pell this time around. I guess that double jeopardy is a given if one is proven innocent yet others wish a different outcome.

Now, Cardinal Pell has been very outspoken over the years in regards to marriage, homosexuality, and other views along those topics. He seems to have become a target to subtely give others notice of what happens when you go against the modern ‘truths and facts’ of the day. In every country, however, and the United States isn’t an exception, freedom of speech just isn’t all that free these days if you differ with the liberal/leftist views. A high-profile individual dares uphold his faith and values and the Austrailian legal system, in their mind, brought him down.

Although, the Cardinal is no longer a free man, is held in solitary 23 hours of each day, was limited to the sacraments at the choice of his captors, and is now being sent to a prison for felons of sexual crimes, he has maintained his faith, probably thinks on the Book of Job, and relies on the mercy of God in God’s time. We all have a God-given plan in our life and it seems that part of Cardinal Pell’s will be from behind bars.

“Can judges who do evil be your friends?
They do injustice under cover of law;
They attack the life of the just
And condemn innocent blood.“

Wisdom Found on the Internet . . . Democrats are the Problem?

In 1865, a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States. In 1881, a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States – who later died from the wound. In 1963, a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States. In 1975, a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States. In 1983, a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States. In 1984, James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonald’s restaurant. In 1986, Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office. In 1990, James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office. And now 2019 Ohio,California,NY,Texas demoRACISTS! Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns. Not one NRA member, Tea Party member, or Republican conservative was involved in any of these shootings and murders. SOLUTION: It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns. We don’t need gun control, we need Democrat control. Guns don’t kill people, Democrats do!

Shhhh . . . Secret Sauce!

Okay, so it really isn’t a secret . . . if you’ve heard of it so I will share my knowledge of it with you.

The greatest addition to my culinary endeavors has now become a staple in my cupboard. It is called fish sauce. I don’t, however, use just any fish sauce as through use and research have discovered the best one around is called Red Boat Fish Sauce.

It is an interesting addition to just about any savory dish as you don’t so much taste a difference but ‘sense’ an added level to the meal. The best price I’ve found is on Amazon where it still seems a bit pricy BUT you only use a few drops to taste and a bottle lasts a long time. The best one, to my taste, comes from Viet Nam and the ingredients are only anchovy and sea salt. Take a word of advice, if you decide to try it, don’t smell it until you have used it the first time because . . . Well, consider, it is pretty fermented fish and . . .

A quarter of a teaspoon added to spaghetti sauce actually makes you wonder how you managed with spaghetti sauce up to that moment. I’ve used a few drops in regular vegetable noodle soup and always add a bit to any rubs I put on meats to be roasted.

Anyway, I thought I would share what secret sauce I depend on to make my own secret sauces!
